I did mine during winter here in the Sierra's, so I kept myself active on the elliptical and spin bike. After I gave up the ghost on running and any other jarring activity, I found that icing 2-3 times per day was the only thing that made it feel like I was making progress on my healing. I spent about 3 weeks with not much change in my pain level, so adding more frequent icing really began to put this thing down. Good luck and get better. I decided at some point I'll just suck it up and start slow jogging because if it will keep hurting for weeks I might as well HTFU and run. I've broken ribs a couple of times, and have also had a pretty good assortment of bruises and separations and intercostal injuries (congenital rib deformities just don't jibe with junior hockey and BJJ.) In other words, it's not the break, it's the bruising. If you have limited bruising, and if the break is very stable, you will probably recover at the very short end of the projected recovery span.
